Kononova Z.A. Shakespeare in Pasternak’s creative world. – Manuscript.

Thesis for a candidates degree by speciality 10.01.02 – Russian
literature.- Kharkov Pedagogical University, Kharkov, 1998.

The work is devoted to the problem of Shakespeare’s influence on the
creative works of Boris Pasternak, the prominent Russian poet and prose
writer of the XX-th century. The essence of Shakespeare’s influence on
Pasternak’s original works is determined. The main subjects, motives
and images from Shakespeare’s works which found response in
Pasternak’s poetry and prose are revealed. For the first time
Pasternak’s novel “Doctor Zhivago” is analyzed in the context of
Shakespeare’s influence on Pasternak’s creation. The conclusions
obtained during the investigation testify about the fact that
Shakespeare has played an important part in the evolution of Pasternak’s
creative world, forming his outlook and aesthetics. Shakespeare enriched
Pasternak’s poetry and prose with new subjects, images and motifs.
Pasternak’s brilliant original talent favoured further, profound and
original development of Shakespeare’s motifs and images.
