Ponomarenko Victoria Valeriyevna Evolution of chthonic image in
Ukrainian folklore.

Dissertation for a scientific degree of the candidate philological
sciences in speciality — 09.00.12 – Ukrainian study- Institute of
Ukrainian Study of Kiev University of Taras Shevchenko, Kiev, 1999.

The dissertation devoted to the study of chthonic image and his multiple
transformations in the complex of mythological notions of Ukrainian
people is presented for a defense. Ukrainian folklore material though
reflects the general world processes of development of mythological
system of notions but it also has a specific features, that’s why it
requires separate consideration.

In the process of research the place, role and significance of chthonic
images in the system of people customs and beliefs are determined. This
permits newly approach to the study and presentation of people poetic
art as phenomena of the national spiritual culture, which according to
the mode of thinking is drawn towards mythology and beles-letters – as
an art of the word.
