The dissertation presents a historical and methodological research into
the linguodidactic ideas of Ivan Ohiyenko /Metropolitan Ilarion/. It
elucidates the problem of interrelation between language as a system and
the ethnopsychology of the Ukrainians as viewed by scolar. Duly
substantiated is the implementing of I.Ohienko’s ideas in the teaching
process to enhance the latter’s effectiveness for school of today. Ways
of introducing the scholar’s linguodidactic ideas into the methods of
teaching Ukrainian have also been recommended by the researcher, with
due regard to the topicality of national-language upbringing. A number
of qualitatively new approaches essential to scientifically
conceptualize the idea of the Ukrainian national school coupled with the
spiritual revival of the Ukrainians in the period of nation-building
have been elaborated.
