is well-grounded. Definitions of such categories as “regulation of the
banking activity” and “supervision over banks’activities” are determined
with greater accuracy. A new classification of the main types of
regulating the banking activity has been elaborated and its objectives
and significance have been defined. The possibilities of implementation
of certain instruments of the state regulation, that are used in the
world practice, into the domestic system of banking supervision have
been discovered. The Thesis gives a well-grounded explanation of the
necessity of keeping the existing organizational form of the state
supervision over the banks’ activities in Ukraine, namely, the form of a
structural division within the National Bank of Ukraine. Two aspects of
the process of regulating the banking activity in Ukraine have been
researched: institutional and functional. The existing system of
admission of commercial banks to markets special features of regulating
banks’ organizational structure and main enforcement measures of the NBU
applied to commercial banks, have been assessed. Using the examples of
credit, deposit and foreign exchange operations of Ukrainian commercial
banks, recommendations on improving functional aspects of the banking
activity regulation have been given.
