The thesis is devoted to the investigation of the Sarmatian relics of
the North Pontic area. It is determined that the Sarmatians appeared in
the region under study in the 2nd cent. B.N. According to the
typologic-chronological analysis of the archaeological records the Early
Sarmatian period in the North Pontic region dates to the 2nd – 1st nent.
BN., the Middle Sarmatian period – to the 1st – middle 2nd nent. A.D.,
the Late Sarmatian period – to the second half of the 2nd – 4 th cent.
A.D. During the Early Sarmatian period the territory under study was
inhabited by Roxolanae and Yazygi. In the middle 1st cent. A.D. the
latters had left the Ukraine and roamed to the Great Hungarian plane.
Their lands were occupied by Aorsi, who has come from Lower Don and
Wolga steppes. On the Eastern lands of the left bank of Dnieper Alanae
lived. In the initial phase of the Late Sarmatian period the original
Western Sarmatian culture has formed with the participation of the
Don-area tribes. In the second half of the 3rd cent. A.D. the
descendants of it became the one of the components of Tcherniakhov
culture. The final of the Sarmatian culture of North Pontic region
connected with the Hunn’s invasion in the second half of the 4th cent.
A.D.
