The thesis is devoted to definiton and systematization of opinions and
points of viev of M. Grushevsky concerting state and social system of
Kiev Rus.

It has been acknowledged and proved, that state and law of Kiev Rus in
description of M. Grushevsky. are the parts of complicated process of
cultural evolution of the East Slavs in the whole and the Ukrainian
people in particular; that is the process of the formation of state and
law of the East Slavs in IX-XIV centuries is characterized by the slow
pace and by the incompleteness of the application of all possibilities
and potential; in today`s conditions it is important to utilize the
achievements of science, to form the description of the history of Kiev
Rus as the state guiding by problems and questions important for legal
science and practical activities.

Systematization of important information for lawyers presented both by
M. Grushevsky. and by other sholars demonstrated, that in the epoch of
Kiev Rus both state and social structure of Kiev Rus, the East Slavs and
the ancestors the Ukrainian nation were in the stage of formation and
transformation.

Keys words: Kiev Rus, social structure, state system, relicts of the
ancient written laws, legal status of social classes, territory, ruling
and administrative bodies.
